Meet Four of Cebu’s Pawsome Paw-rents

Meet Four of Cebu’s Pawsome Paw-rents

The bond between pets and their owners is unconditional. This is exactly the reason why we call them man’s best friends and consider them a treasured part of the family.

With the amount of love and affection they give, it’s only right that we return the favor. And what do dogs love most? Spending time with their “hoomans”.

Get to know some of Cebu’s pawrents and their fur babies:

Vern Enciso-Lim with Chewy, Milana & Bordeaux

For lifestyle content creator and entrepreneur Vern-Enciso Lim, lockdown life became easier with her fur babies around. Thanks to her husband’s big love for pets, she became a dog lover herself and now they are proud parents to a 3-month-old Maltese and their personal alarm clock Bordeaux, 5-year-old Shih-Poo (Shih Tzu-Pomeranian)  and their guard dog Chewy, and 2-year-old smart pooch Pomsky (Pomeranian- Siberian) Milana.

“Enjoy every step,” Vern starts when asked what advice she can give to new pawrents. “Just like kids, there will come a time when they’re not as clingy and needy anymore as when they were puppies,”. Vern also points out that it takes a lot of hard work and responsibility, so make sure you’re 100% committed before becoming one.

King Martinez with Disco

Even as a child, self-employed beach bum, King Martinez has always been an animal lover with a special liking to dogs. With a lot of time on his hands during the lockdown, he decided to raise his own. Now, King is a dedicated dad to a 7-month-old Australian Cattle Dog named Disco.

He says that being a pawrent isn’t always easy, but he finds fulfillment and joy in rearing his fur baby despite that. King shares that Disco is the type who’s always excited to see and meet people. “He’ll be the first one to jump and greet you, so expect a lot of wags and kisses or a nudge of his toy for a game of fetch or tug of war.”

He advises new dog owners to always be kind to their pooches. “There’s no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner,” he remarks. “Do your research before getting a dog. All breeds are different, and they all have their own needs.”

Jennifer Elaine Sarmiento-Bun-an with Happy, Heart & Baboy Billion

To lifestyle content creator, entrepreneur, and mom-to-be, Jennifer Sarmiento-Bun-an, being a pawrent is fun and exciting and can sometimes be tiring, but it’s a beautiful life with dogs nonetheless. According to her, the unconditional love you receive from your pets is immeasurable because no matter what you do, your dogs will always be loyal to you.

It’s no question Jen has always loved pets because when she and her husband got together, they immediately wanted to adopt one. The moment they saw Billion, the couple instantly had a special attachment towards her. Jen says that Billion was actually the runt of the litter. However, it was still love at first sight. Sadly, Billion passed away at just the age of 3 but left behind her adorable Pomeranian children Happy, Heart, and Babi.

Happy, who never stops eating and Heart, the smart one with the freckles, and Baboy Billion, Billion’s sister, who has a luxated patella, filled the void after Billion crossed the rainbow bridge. Losing a dog never gets easier, but Jen insists that every pawrent must be prepared to give their fur babies the love, time, and care they need.

“If you plan to become PAW-rents, be prepared to give your fur babies, love, time and care.” Jen advices. “Pets are clingy and affectionate – pretty much like children so they will always seek for attention.”

Jasmin Ellen Sarmiento-Juan with Ramsey

Fur momma, lifestyle content creator, and entrepreneur, Jasmin Ellen Sarmiento-Juan says that life as a pawrent is great. At the same time, it gives her a sense of responsibility, which in turn, is reciprocated with loyalty and unconditional love by her fur baby.

At a young age, Jas already knew she was a pet lover and the family’s late 16-year-old Shih Tzu Lucky, encouraged her to be a pawrent herself. Today, Jas has a 4-year-old Pomeranian named Ramsey who enjoys car rides and demands he gets to go on a joy ride at least once a day.

“Show your dogs you love them and treat them well because pets are basically your family, too,” Jas shares a bit of advice to first-time pet owners.
